Haute Couture!! This time, I absolutely love the name of my column! Doesn’t it suddenly ring bells and create images in the mind- of beautiful colours, flowing (or scarce) fabrics, skinny anorexic women, the walk and the Ooomph!! Well no, I haven’t been to the Lakme Fashion week or Milan lately. But with so many vivid personalities coming together at BLC, one can’t ignore the style each one brings to the organization! Men and women at BLC add equally to the glam quotient and do not fail to leave lasting impressions of their persona. Oh yes, we’ve had our share of the chamiyas and the chapris and they will continue haunting us for long time to come with their disastrous dressing sense. But no worries, this column is meant for noticeable folks only!! So read on and enjoy and wait to see who gets featured next!!
Diana:
She dresses up mostly as you see in this picture. But given a chance, Diana would come to office everyday wearing Denims! ‘I see myself looking great in smart semi-formals, a formal shirt and denims’, she says. Her long tresses, if flaunted may be the envy of some, but she’d rather tie them up. Diana was given the title of ‘Mrs. Chaddha’, (apparently some Hindi movie character with a similar hairstyle) by Isha and Umesh after a disastrous visit to a hair dresser. She likes wearing comfortable shoes, preferably heeled. Her earrings are indispensable and she has to match them everyday with her attire!

Popularly known as the KARJAT QUEEN, this is Pournima Surve, our only Network Associate in Mumbai. You’ll find her in trousers, a crisp shirt, a stylish scarf, tiny studs for the ear, a hint of lipstick and closed but comfortable shoes. Pournima has her style defined. But she realizes the fact that her long and usually uncomfortable journey every morning from Karjat to the other end of Mumbai city does not usually allow her this liberty. Unless of course, she’d like her scarf to be used as a tug for the maddening crowd trying to enter the train, all at once, grabbing anything that the hand can reach! So she chooses to wear casual and easily manageable clothes, like the ones you see in this picture. Her watch is indispensable to her she tells me. I believe her. One has to keep a track on time when their day starts off with a two hours long journey to the office every morning!
Sutapa:
For those of you who don’t know, Sutapa is one of the new members aboard BLC. “I wish I could dress up differently everyday! Although this is how I see myself on a perfect da y: a smart churidaar-kurta from Fab India, chunky oxidized jewelry and flip flops! Of course, I can never do without my bindi, lipstick and eye liner.” Sutapa has left little for me to
explain. And for what she missed telling us, you can see the ever smiling girl in this picture from our CC album!
Archana Tomar:
Her style has never gone unnoticed at BLC. A warrior against sloppy clothes and make up, Archana Tomar does not believe in conventional clothing. Her office armor includes trendy and smart looking formals, absolutely no make up and her favorite kada. Although she would like to travel to the office wearing her pyjamas and chappals, Archana thankfully does not surprise us. After all, she is the co-founder and the seniors supposed to be setting examples!!
So CHEERS to all the women in office. We know we look good and we’ll only get better!
No, I am NOT a feminist! And yes, there is space for the men folk in my column! To prove my point, here’s presenting fashion from two of the few odd men we have in BLC.

Subhash Pais:
Team leader of an all girls team, Subhash feels most comfortable in the regular boring clothes that men wear to work. He says that his clothes compliment his “dignified image”. ‘I can’t carry informal clothing’, says Subhash. Of course I got silly replies when I asked about the most indispensable part of his everyday clothing, but ultimately settled upon his belt as the answer to my question.
Prakash Pujari:
As mentioned in case of Subhash, Prakash too believes that wearing proper formal clothes is his style mantra. I agree when he says that people exude confidence when they are wearing the right clothes in the right place... Prakash absolutely detests men wearing heeled shoes. Quite contrary to the rigid image built for Prakash in the lines above, I notice that Prakash also flaunts more than a little bling in his attire. A Gold bracelet, a gold earring and not one but THREE gold rings!
What’s more, he even used to wear a gold watch…which has recently been replaced by a belted one. His watch also happens to be the one thing he can never do without!

So, by the looks of it, BLC really isn’t doing badly on the FASHION-METER.
We all have the desire to be different, to stand out and be noticed. Making sure we don’t overdo it, is imperative.
So, time to dress up in your best, BLC. The FASHION BRIGADE has arrived!! And you could be its next target.
